Did you know that one in six people in the world don’t have clean water to drink? Luckily, the fashion industry does, and they’re going to do something about it. The high-end Australian denim company Nobody, in conjunction with Ivan Kane’s Café Wa s and charity:water, have designed t-shirts for the cause that read “Nobody Wa s Thirsty.” The company is donating $40 from the sale of each shirt sold to provide people in Africa and other countries in need with safe water for twenty years! Fashion and pop-culture icons like Nas, Alan Cumming, and Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks all posed for legendary rock n’ roll photographer Mick Rock in the tee in order to raise awareness. Beginning this month you can do your part by picking up a shirt at a fine retailer near you or online — stay tuned for where to buy at  www.nobody.com.au

adidas1-1We recently learned via WWD that Adidas is getting ready to launch a new sportswear, not activewear line called SLVR, officially making its grand debut in February during New York Fashion Week, with a new store in SoHo devouted to the collection. Although its not derived to be an eco-focused line, it does incorporate green elements such as organic cotton, soybean fabric, and the “zero waste T” made of one piece of fabric sewn once and cut once, and the “seven-piece shoe” comprised of seven stitched together pieces instead of 25 components that normally make up a piece of footwear. We’re pleased that a huge brand like Adidas recognizes the value of being eco-friendly, but we wonder if the positioning of the new sportswear line is really enough to stand out in an already crowded and unstable market..

We recently attended the Payless Spring 2009 preview, and are excited to announce the continuation of fabulous designer styles by the likes of Abaete, Lela Rose, and Alice + Olivia. In addition to the designer collaboration collections that we love,  two pleasant new surprises are on the way: a  hand-dyed collection by Lela Rose in silhouettes that you will actually want to wear to a wedding or formal occasion  and the incredibly innovative (not to mention adorable and afordable) green footwear collection.

We were most impressed with the incredible consideration put into the eco-line, dubbed Zoe & Zac, making everything from the upper materials, soles, rubber, detailing and more in an eco-conscious way.  Payless partnered with Summer Rayne Oaks, a model-activist,  spokesperson, and consultant in sustainable development to make sure the collection was ground-breaking in the realm of green and stylish. We can’t wait to get at least a few pairs once they hit stores in April of 2009!

Fashion Pulse traded in their converse sneakers for patent leather pumps on October 30th for the Saks Fifth Avenue party honoring creative director Damiano Biella of Escada and benefitting the Free Arts NYC organization. The party remained on the second floor of Saks, centered around the Escada boutique, which of course had clothing to die for displayed on rotating live models and complete with oversized ruffles, interesting pleat detailing and baby-soft cashmere jackets. Besides the free cocktails and eclectic fashion crowd, we most enjoyed the evening send-off via a live performance by Duffy, singing four of the songs from her debut Rockferry album.
