We saw a tremendous amount of exposed zippers on the runway this season, our favorites being from the fabulous Proenza Schouler spring/summer 2009 collection (pictured). Naturally we know right away that we had to participate in this trend, so we pulled together some affordable items that will help you get that exposed zipper look.

We’ve already purchased the Exposed Zipper Top (features a zipper down the back), $18.99 and  Zippered Leggings, $16.99, both from Charlotte Russe, although we definitely wouldn’t wear the two items together. picture-3We were thrilled to find zippered leggings that didn’t cost $100, likes the coveted LNA brand ones, and the slight batwing sleeves, buckle-waist, and longer tunic length give the exposed zipper top a very of-the-moment aesthetic.  Next up we found the Kensie Double-Knit Dress at Dillard’s for $49 (was $98), which most certainly channels mod-chic and also has a zipper down the back. Last of all, we foudn the splurge item — the  Marc by Marc Jacobs Runway Exposed Zipper Dress, on sale for $199 (was $328) at eLUXURY.com. The cool blue color and tiered fabric gives a pulled-together, ladylike look, then turn around and go a little grunge with the exposed zipper surprise.

Enhance your holiday look with a little sparkling glitter on your wrist with this Marc by Marc Jacobs Crazy Bow Cuff for $58.80 (was $98) at NET-A-PORTER.com. It will enhance pretty much any casual or dressy look — we’d love to pair it with this D&G Dolce & Gabbana Peter Pan Collar Top ($112.50) and the Marc by Marc Jacobs Charlie High-Waisted Jeans ($100, both NET-A-PORTER.com). Add $12.50 for s&h.

Target is our ultimate go-to for a last minute dress on the cheap, so we decided to pull together a slew of noteworthy items from the mega retailer that come in at under $20 each and are appropriate to wear to your holiday party, the significant other’s holiday party, a winter wedding, your family get-together, you name it!

312pakagul_aa260_Jonathan Saunders Sleeveless Sweater Dress in Ebony, $17.49 (was $34.99)

A black sweater dress is just soooo versatile; you can even get away with wearing it to work. We would style it with a cape-like sweater and equestrian boots to give it a chic edge.

Go International Sweater Coat in Ebony, $9.99 (was $39.99)

Perfect — just what we were talking about!  This is absolutely essential for those occasions when you want to eventually show off your outfit at some point in the night, but at the time being, its too cold out to go bare-shouldered!

Target Velvet Large Bow Clutch in Black, $12.74 or  Target Cinched Clutch in Black/Gold, $14.44
You’ve got to have at least one item with an adorable bow on it! Use the bow as an accent, or as an integral part of the bag’s design.
Mossimo Vester Mary Jane Pumps, $18.89 (were $26.99)

The capped toe with a dash of patent is very of-the-moment, and very Chanel, so we can’t resist!

Isaac Mizrahi for Target Angel Pumps in Gray, $8.24 (was $32.99)

These also could work nicely with the items selected above; and they are cheaper! The pumps move from ordinary to a knock-out with the faux patent leather detailing on the toe and heels!

There’s nothing better than a Marc Jacobs handbag on sale (in our humble opinion), and we came across thisfabulous MARC BY MARC JACOBS ‘Pretty Nylon – Poppy’ Tote Bag, now $109.90 (was $180) at Nordstrom. It’s great that this tote actually has zip closure at the top, and the nylon fabric makes it easy to clean and lightweight to carry. Now we’ve just got to decide between the fluoro pink or cream…  Plus, get free shipping via coupon code “HOLIDAY08″.

We just found out that there’s more one the way via the Target accessory designer collaborations — yay!!!!  Felix Rey designers Lily Band and Sulaika Zarrouk will have a handbag collection dubbed Felix Rey for hitting the stores/online March 29th, followed by Trish Carroll of Miss Trish of Capri creating a shoe line for Target April 5th. So far, our favorites have been Gryson for handbags and Hollywould for shoes at Target, but are anxiously awaiting to see what the new collaborations have rolling out!  No images were currently available of the upcoming Target collections, so we’ve put up a few of the signature collection items to get an idea of the designers’ designs.

Over the years I’ve kind of had a thing for peacocks — I’ve worn their feathers as earrings, I’ve been inspired 54940336-01by the shape of their tail to create garments that mimicked the silhouette, and grew up near the Pittsburgh Zoo, where the cavalier birds would frequently escape and stop traffic. Anyways, back to shopping: I love the styling and drape of this Peacock Pleated Top, $19.80, which can be worn either casually, as pictured, with a worn-in leather jacket, or dressed up with a woven pencil skirt and 4-inch platforms! Add $5.95 for s&h.

Norma Kamali has always been one of those rare, cool designers that I’ve admired — very hands on, extremely innovative, never “selling out”, and trailblazing  the way for new concepts.  Norma Kamali‘s latest venture with Wal-Mart was created in order to keep great fashion accessible at all price points, and that she surely accomplishes. Several of her signature styles like batwing knit sweaters, rip-stop material clothes,0489412700217_215x2151 leopard, and versatile dresses are available at the mega-retailer, all for under $20 each!  Plus, there are organic cotton tees for $6! Take that Target! Unfortunately, most of our favorites are already sold out online, but if you’re heading somewhere outside of New York City for the holidays, chances are that there’s a Wal-Mart within a 5-mile radius. If not, shipping is only .97 cents via Walmart.com. We’re going to be heading to one in a suburb outside of Pittsburgh on Black Friday — wish us luck! The best from the collection include the Athletic Batwing Cardigan, Elbow-Sleeve Tunic Sweatshirt, Long-Sleeve Print Jersey Wrap Dress, Ripstop Cargo Pants, and the Organic Graphic Cotton Scoop Tank.

What do you get when you mix Marc Jacobs’ ground-breaking grunge looks of the 1990’s with the iconic and classy style of Chanel? Grunge-chic, naturally. We’ve spotted the look on celebrity fashion icons such as Mary-Kate Olsen, Lindsay Lohan, and Rachel Bilson, who are all donning Kurt Cobain- inspired plaid flannel paired with leggings and sky-high heels. If you still love Nirvana but dream of quilted purses, or if like us, just have style ADD, then this look is perfect for you! The key to achieving this style is to successfully contrast girly pieces with edgy and grungy pieces, and of course Fashion Pulse will show you how to do it!

To begin you’ll need a basic black cami, like this Cassandra Lace Cami from dELiA’s for $19.50, and some black tights (we swear by the UO Supersoft Bamboo Tights, $18 from Urban Outfitters). Next, add a colorful high–waisted tulip skirt. The pop of color will counter all of the black that you’ll be wearing with this outfit, and the tulip shape adds femininity. American Apparel’s Polyester Micro-Fiber Tulip Skirt, for $28, is perfect for this piece.

Now for the main grunge ingredient: over the tank and the skirt, layer a long sleeved plaid flannel shirt, and roll up the sleeves. We prefer the men’s Mountain Pond plaid shirt, $80 at Abercrombie and Fitch (search “mens” then click “shirts”), or you can always just “borrow” one from your dad or boyfriend! The shirt should look over-sized and a little sloppy to juxtapose the chic aspect of the look. Fasten on a black belt, like this Fashion Focus Black Croc-Stamped Patent Wide Belt from Bluefly for $27, over the flannel to accentuate your feminine features under that baggy shirt. If you want to expose the cami, leave the flannel unbuttoned and peel back the front shirttails before putting the belt on.

The Midnight Suede Bowtie Bootie, $88 from Urban Outfitters is the perfect shoe for this outfit because they’ve got an adorable bow, yet still have a pretty hardcore aesthetic. Finally, to top it off, add a Blair Waldorf-like black headband like this one from Forever 21 for $2.80, and voila! You are now equipped to rock out grunge-chic!

56850568-01In case you haven’t noticed, we’ve got a bad dependency problem — its called Forever 21, and no matter how had we try, we can’t walk out of there without dropping at leat $60. The pick of the day is this H81 Pointelle Swing Cardigan, $32.90, and although it is a little “pricey” for Forever 21, the style is one that will translate over many looks, and is way cheaper than some of its similar counterparts that we’ve been eyeing at Anthropologie, that start at $90!  Choose from grey or cream. Add $5.95 for s&h.
